Week of the Young Child is Here!

Welcome to the Pickens County First Steps blog! We hope this will be a space that encourages our friends in Pickens County toward everyday ways of supporting young children and their families in our community.

April 12-16 is The Week of the Young Child and that’s what we’re all about. This week recognizes that the early childhood years lay a critical foundation for children’s success down the road. Local communities across the nation will celebrate our young children and promote their needs, the needs of their families, and the early childhood programs that serve them.

PC First Steps partners with others for special events tailored just for our community.

Whether you come to the opening of the Born Learning Trail in Liberty, hang out with our superheroes at the Pickens Flea Market, visit our libraries for reading events, or Picnic in the Park with our costumed superhero friends, we look forward to celebrating this week with you!

This week, consider the young children in Pickens County — your own, the little ones you teach, those who live in your neighborhood, and the ones you see as you’re out and about in our community.

Notice them, play with them, read to them, and support them in the everyday ways you can. Your influence, love, and support makes more of an impact than you realize.

Most of all, encourage and applaud their parents and caregivers. Nurturing our energetic little ones can be a demanding task but together, we can all be superheroes to the young children in Pickens County.

Parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, pediatricians, churches, social services, and all childcare workers — thank you for serving our children. We look forward to celebrating this Week of the Young Child in Pickens County with you, our front-line superheroes!
