How to Parent Your Kids With Positive Discipline & Have a Calmer Home This Summer

Ah, summer. All the kids. All at home. For all the minutes of all the days.

We have visions of being the laid-back fun mom, keeping things managed and under control, never raising her voice, supervising her children who play together with ease, handing out homemade popsicles mid-afternoon after everyone has taken their scheduled naps and they’re all happily playing in the sprinkler.

Wait, that’s not exactly how your summer is going as a parent? {Me either.}

I can’t imagine a better time to introduce you to Kelly Pfeifer and Think It Through Parenting. Kelly is a positive discipline trainer.

Positive discipline “teaches important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults (including parents, teachers, childcare providers, youth workers, and others).”

FIVE CRITERIA FOR POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

1. Is it kind and firm at the same time? (Respectful and encouraging)
2. Does it help children feel a sense of belonging and significance? (Connection)
3. Is it effective long-term? (Punishment works short term, but has negative long- term results.)
4. Does it teach valuable social and life skills for good character? (Respect, concern for others, problem-solving, accountability, contribution, cooperation)
5. Does it invite children to discover how capable they are and to use their personal power in constructive ways?

Parenting can be overwhelming and there’s often a discouraging gap between where we are and where we want to be as moms and dads. Kelly offers positive discipline training for parents through coaching, private conferences, monthly teleconferences, and more.
